The University of Texas Medical Reserve Corps (UTMRC) prepares students to respond confidently during public health emergencies and disasters. Through hands-on training, we equip students with the practical skills needed to protect and support their communities in times of crisis. During disasters, communities often lack enough trained volunteers to respond quickly. Without preparation and training, response efforts can be delayed, putting people at risk.
Our work builds on a strong foundation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, UTMRC trained over 800 volunteers and supported efforts that helped vaccinate more than 100,000 individuals. This experience showed us the importance of preparedness and the powerful impact students can have when they are ready to serve.
Your support will fund essential training supplies, including disaster preparedness kits, first aid materials, and educational resources. These supplies enable us to deliver training such as personal disaster preparedness and psychological first aid, with a focus on students who may be underprepared. By making these opportunities accessible, we are helping more students gain life-saving skills.
We are passionate about this work because it turns learning into action. Students build confidence while gaining skills they can use to help their families, neighbors, and communities during emergencies. This project supports The University of Texas mission by fostering service, leadership, and community engagement.
Together, we can prepare the next generation of responders and strengthen the safety and resilience of our communities.
