This August, the College of Pharmacy will welcome more than 120 students into the Class of 2029 at the annual White Coat Ceremony, a symbolic event that marks the beginning of their journey to becoming leading pharmacists and health care providers. You can help make this milestone even more memorable by sponsoring a student's first white coat.
Make a Lasting Impact: Sponsor a White Coat for the Class of 2029
Sponsoring a white coat is a meaningful way for Texas Pharmacy alumni and friends to connect with incoming students—and future Longhorn alumni. A generous gift of $50 or more will provide one or more white coats for these aspiring professionals.
As a sponsor, you'll also have the opportunity to include a personal note of congratulations and encouragement in the pocket of a student's white coat, a message they'll carry with them as they begin their professional journey. Student sponsorships will be randomly assigned.
To Sponsor a White Coat:
- Make your gift online. Each sponsorship is $50 and covers the cost of one white coat.
- You may choose to sponsor more than one white coat.
Sponsors will receive a follow-up email in July with a link to the White Coat Note Form.

"Pharmacy is a small world" was a phrase I often heard while working as a pharmacy technician before pharmacy school. I heard it so often that the meaning began to slip through my fingers; like water to a fish, it simply became part of my environment.
I remembered that phrase when an alumnus I worked with encouraged me to apply to The University of Texas at Austin. Moving halfway across the country felt daunting, but my colleague spoke highly of the University and its exceptional faculty. I thought back to my childhood—blues music playing on the TV while my dad watched Austin City Limits—and soon found myself packing the car for the 17-hour drive.
Though parts of my life were still in flux when I arrived, the college community felt instantly warm and welcoming, almost like coming home. During New Student Orientation, I felt the pride and camaraderie of the profession grow stronger each day. These feelings culminated at the White Coat Ceremony, when professors shared that UT alumni and friends of the college had sponsored our coats. As I tried mine on, I instinctively reached into the pockets and found a handwritten note from the alumnus who had sponsored it. In that moment, I finally understood what that phrase meant: a "small world" also means a family. I’m grateful to be part of this family and proud to call myself a Texas Longhorn.
My life has been guided by two enduring goals: to become a Texas Longhorn and to become a pharmacist. August 2024 holds a special place in my heart because it was the month when both goals began to feel like a reality.
The day of the White Coat Ceremony was a whirlwind of emotions. My mother is a proud Texas alumna and growing up she would always dress me in Longhorn-themed outfits. So, it was a full-circle moment to have her watch me put on my white coat from The University of Texas last August. As I began my P1 year, my white coat became a symbol of support and encouragement, reminding me that it was a generous gift made possible by alumni and friends of the college.
I am incredibly fortunate to be a Texas Longhorn and honored to be a part of The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy family.
