This is a pivotal moment for the LBJ School and for the future of public service. As our students prepare for ambitious careers serving the citizens of this nation and the world, we are calling on the LBJ community to provide the support and encouragement they need to be equipped to meet the challenges ahead.
The LBJ School needs your help to continue attracting the best and brightest students dedicated to changing the world for the better. In government, nonprofits, the private sector, and in communities across the globe, our graduates are making impacts that honor the legacy of our school and bring pride to the LBJ name. With your help, the next generation of LBJ students can obtain the resources and skills they need to become future public leaders and create a positive impact in our community and throughout the world.
Though we always encourage flexible gifts to the LBJ School Annual Fund and supporting individual areas of passion, this year we are highlighting the LBJ School's Extreme Weather Adaptation Lab and the work it is doing on the frontlines of weather-related hazards and climate resilience in Texas and beyond.
The Extreme Weather Adaptation Lab
The Extreme Weather Adaptation Lab helps communities, governments, and partners prepare for weather-related hazards. By combining cutting-edge research, tailored policy tools, and strong stakeholder collaboration, we work to build more resilient and sustainable futures. While our reach is both national and international, our roots are in Texas—and we take pride in supporting and connecting partners across the state to strengthen collaboration and shared learning.
The Extreme Weather Lab envisions a world where proactive governance and planning create more livable, resilient communities by strengthening effective policy tools and streamlining collaboration between research and policy. Its mission is to help policymakers, planners, and communities prepare for extreme weather by advancing innovative, evidence-based research and inclusive participation to identify effective solutions for all.
Your gift to the Extreme Weather Adaptation Lab will support our applied research to deliver evidence-based solutions designed to strengthen resilience and adaptability in our communities. This includes supporting the creation of extreme weather adaptation trainings and collaborative sessions, student and faculty research, and workshops and events that strengthen shared learning to improve preparedness and response to extreme weather.

“The question is no longer whether extreme weather will shape our future, but whether we will shape policies and institutions to protect people from it. When science meets policy, resilience to weather extremes becomes a reality for our communities.”
-Lidia Cano-Pecharromán, Director, Extreme Weather Adaptation Lab
