About

The Humanitarian Engineering Program at The University of Texas at Austin empowers students to apply engineering, social work, and design skills to real-world challenges in underserved and crisis-affected communities. Through courses like Humanitarian Product Development (HPD) and Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC), multidisciplinary student teams partner with communities locally and globally to design and implement practical, community-centered solutions.

During these 40 hours of fundraising, we are raising seed funding to help nine project teams launch their Fall 2026 work with partner communities. Early support allows students to immediately begin material progress, whether that means building a shade structure so refugee communities can safely exercise outdoors, repairing a roof, replacing water pipes, reconstructing a latrine, or supporting student employees at the Kenyan Red Cross Innovation Lab.

Donations directly support student project work by covering materials, prototyping, and implementation costs. Funding can also help provide travel scholarships so students can work alongside community partners and implement solutions on the ground. Because our partners’ work continues year-round, not just during the academic semester, these contributions help sustain meaningful progress and ensure projects remain effective, community-informed, and impactful.
