About

KUT Public Media informs, connects and strengthens the Central Texas community. Through independent local, regional, national and international news, and transformative music and community storytelling, we bring people together, amplify voices and provide critical information. We are a voice of — and for — the greater Austin community. If our work resonates with you, we hope you’ll consider supporting us to preserve the news and music you love and train the public media leaders of tomorrow.

Across the globe, the media landscape is shrinking — but not here. As a 100% community-supported, nonprofit public service, KUT and KUTX are dedicated to growing and evolving to meet the needs of our audiences. We are expanding our reporting capabilities and strengthening our coverage, ensuring Austin stays informed. Meanwhile, KUTX continues to foster and elevate Austin’s vibrant music ecosystem like no other. To keep thriving, we need you. We believe in always striving for more — more stories, more music, more connections, and more support for the artists and journalists who shape Austin’s cultural landscape. Your support will help us do just that.

Your donation to KUT and KUTX not only supports local news and music in Austin, but also directly invests in the next generation of media professionals.

  • Each year, we provide paid internships to 30+ students from UT Austin and other local universities, offering hands-on experience in journalism and media-related careers.
  • We mentor a select cohort of students annually through the NPR Next Generation Radio program, an immersive, digital-first journalism intensive.

Beyond training future media leaders, your gift also helps us continue to:

  • Be a lifeline during emergencies by providing real-time safety updates on severe weather, local disasters, and emergency communications through our broadcasts, social media sites, and the KUT News app.
  • Uncover Austin’s untold stories through ATXplained, our podcast and live journalism event that engages over 1,000 attendees per performance.
  • Produce award-winning podcasts like Black Austin Matters, Tacos of Texas, 24 Hours in Austin, Vamos Verde, and more, telling unique Texas stories.
  • Highlight Austin’s arts and culture through Art Beat, a new editorial exploring how art is made, funded and experienced – and why it matters to our community.
  • Offer free and low-cost community music events like KUTX Rock the Park and KUTX Live at Scholz Garten, bringing live music to families and music lovers year-round.

We hear from thousands of listeners every year about the impact KUT and KUTX have on their lives. Your support doesn’t just sustain us — it strengthens our entire community. We are part of Austin’s fabric, just like Zilker Park, the Red River Cultural District, and yes, the University of Texas at Austin. Donate today to protect and grow an Austin institution while training the next generation of media leaders. Thank you for your support!
