The Center for Global Change and Media is a newly established intellectual hub in the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Students and faculty connected to the Center seek to transform the world, especially for those living in the global south, through interdisciplinary communication and media research and creative activities such as the Moody Scholars for Change program. The Centerโs motto is โWhen we transform media, we transform the world.โ
The Moody Scholars for Social Change Program provides undergraduates (juniors and seniors) with high-quality and immersive experiences beyond the classroom that prepare them for career success. Scholars receive a $2,750 stipend for their work. This year, the Moody Scholars are conducting interdisciplinary and global-facing research and producing video documentaries to assist E4Youth, a non-profit organization in Austin. Funding will allow the Center to expand the program beyond the five students/year who participate in the program and will support a graduate student to mentor the scholars.
Experiences in the Moody Scholars program have helped students to develop valuable professional and leadership skills. The additional skills acquired in the program allow aspiring media professionals and researchers to set themselves apart from other job candidates and enables them to look at the world in interconnected and cross-cultural ways. The Moody College and wider communities also benefit from the research and creative activities that the scholars produce.
