Why Education Abroad Matters
In today’s interconnected world, international education is more critical than ever. The University of Texas at Austin is dedicated to educating global citizens through innovative teaching and research that change lives and address the world’s greatest challenges. Education abroad opens doors for our students to realize their full potential and leave a lasting Longhorn legacy. Texas Global supports more than 4,600 Longhorns who study, research, and intern abroad each year, earning UT a consistent ranking among the top three universities for study abroad participation in the U.S. In a recent poll, 85 percent of UT alumni who studied abroad ranked that experience as the top contributor to their post-graduation success.
Why We Need Your Help
Your contribution makes education abroad possible for more Longhorns. The world needs leaders and global citizens equipped with a global mindset and the accompanying knowledge, experience, and perspective gained through education abroad. UT students are eager to experience the world, but for many, the cost of studying abroad is an insurmountable obstacle. More than 60 percent of UT students who study abroad depend on financial assistance.
Initiatives to Support
- Scholarships for Students: Your donation can be the key that unlocks the world for a deserving student. Many students face financial challenges that limit their ability to participate in these life-changing opportunities. You help eliminate these barriers, allowing students to develop essential skills and bring important perspectives back to our campus.
- Take the World by the Horns: Imagine the impact of a first-year student starting their academic journey with a semester abroad. This program offers immersive learning experiences in Copenhagen, Denmark; Stockholm, Sweden; Panama City, Panama; or Seoul, South Korea. Your support helps these new Longhorns build global competencies and language skills, connecting students with their peers and setting them on a path to success.
- Global Career Launch: Help our students gain a competitive edge by supporting international internships and research opportunities. These experiences, led by UT Austin professors, provide both undergraduate and graduate students with invaluable global work experience, enhancing their skills, resumes, and professional networks.
- Projects with Underserved Communities (PUC): Through this program, engineering and social work students design and implement projects that address local needs, such as clean water access and health services. Since 2010, students have worked in countries like Mexico, Peru, and Ghana, gaining leadership and cultural skills while making a lasting impact. Your contribution can make a tangible difference in underserved communities while empowering our students.
Your Impact
Your gift will remove financial barriers and transform the lives and careers of Longhorns by giving them access to education abroad. Your contribution will directly support a student and offset their costs of studying, researching, or interning abroad, including obtaining a passport, paying for airfare, tuition, abroad fees, housing, food, and other expenses. Your gift will truly transform the life and career of a Longhorn. Not only that, but in supporting student mobility around the world, you amplify UT Austin's global reach, reputation, and impact.
