Who We Are
The Program in Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) at The University of Texas at Austin has a global, comparative focus with a particular strength in the Americas. NAIS is an interdisciplinary field that fosters supports teaching and research on the languages, cultures, knowledges, and histories of Native American and Indigenous tribes, peoples, societies, and communities. We are also committed to cultivating and developing good relations with the American Indian and Indigenous tribes and communities in Texas and beyond.
NAIS is housed in the College of Liberal Arts, with faculty and course offerings that span schools and colleges throughout the university. Our undergraduate certificate, graduate portfolio, and the major in Race, Indigeneity, and Migration allow students to develop a comprehensive understanding of Indigenous thought, history, and issues. We also provide a community for NAIS students through social events, seminars, workshops, and support for student organizations. Our lounge in WCP 4.110 provides a gathering space for both undergraduate and graduate students.
NAIS runs an exciting speaker series that provides students, faculty, and community members the opportunity to learn from and connect with scholars and artists from around the world. We also offer summer research fellowships for faculty and students, and a research workshop for graduate students.
What We're Fundraising For
The Program in Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) at UT invites you to support the work of our undergraduate and graduate students. We offer students the opportunity to learn and engage with cultures, languages, and histories of Indigenous communities at the local, regional, national, and international levels. NAIS is raising funds for student-led initiatives, scholarships, internships, and student research in Native American and Indigenous Studies.
Your Impact
Each gift to the NAIS Program directly helps us support students as they progress on their academic journey in Indigenous Studies.
Your gift is key in helping us in our effort to offer more substantial support to a greater number of students in future years.
In addition to supporting student research, past donations have enabled us to offer undergraduate student scholarships and internships in partnership with Great Promise for American Indians, a local nonprofit organization that organizes the renowned Austin Powwow each year. Future donations would enable more students to gain internship experience in Austin and beyond.
